Give Your Memorization Abilities a Boost

We all know that a rigorous academic workload requires a lot of memorization.  Even the most analytical of subjects, like math, require certain amounts of memorization.  Students are often required to memorize large amounts of information, and then regurgitate it perfectly in order to score well on a test.  While they are frequently told to memorize, they are rarely taught how to improve their memorization skills.  Today we're here to do just that.

Ways to Improve Your Memory

  1. Get plenty of sleep.  While you sleep, your brain reviews, organizes, and solidifies what it has learned throughout the day.  Without this crucial step, or if the time for carrying it out is cut short, your memory will suffer.
  2. Exercise.  The benefits of exercise are many, but one of the often overlooked benefits is what exercise can do not for your muscles, but for your brain.  It has been proven in study after study that exercise increases the release of certain chemicals that help with memory.  So get moving!
  3. Meditate.  Students have a lot going on in their lives, and are being subjected to new experiences daily.  Take a minute (or 10) to give your brain a rest from its busy schedule.  Meditation has been shown to reduce stress, which at high, sustained levels can severely interfere with memory.
  4. Eat well.  Certain foods, like blueberries and vegetables, contain essential nutrients and chemical compounds that are critical to memory.  Eating them in abundance, along with maintaining an overall healthy diet, can provide a huge boost to your memory.
